The Videsh Seva Medal is an Indian military award presented to personnel of all ranks for their service outside India, instituted on 26 January 1960. A Videsh Seva Medal with Clasp Sudan indicates service in Sudan, where the clasp, a bar with the country’s name, is attached to the medal ribbon to signify the location of the service. This medal is different from the United Nations Medal for Sudan (UNMIS), awarded to Indian peacekeepers for their service under the UN mission there.
